HC Deb 23 January 1957 vol 563 c194
37. Miss Lee

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the number of hospitals in Western Nigeria which treat mental cases; and the number of medical practitioners who are qualified to treat mental diseases in the region.

Mr. Profumo

There are two mental hospitals and, on average, thirty Government medical practitioners, one of whom holds a specialist qualification in psychiatry, who may be called upon to treat mental cases.

Miss Lee

Has the hon. Gentleman had any representations from patients who are badly in need of treatment but are not able to be given hospital accommodation or proper medical care?

Mr. Profumo

I am not aware of any representations of that sort, but if the hon. Lady has any case in mind, perhaps she will be kind enough to let me know.
