HC Deb 21 June 1956 vol 554 c1619
9. Mr. Shepherd

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the number of embassies in London where policemen are stationed; and the number of hours per day of such surveillance.

Major Lloyd-George

Police officers are at present stationed for twenty-four hours a day at four embassies.

Mr. Shepherd

Does not my right hon. and gallant Friend think that this is a waste of money in present circumstances? Would not police on call or on car patrol be of value in such cases? Is it not the case that there is very little trouble now at these embassies, and that such use of the police is not justified?

Major Lloyd-George

It is a matter for the Commissioner of Police, and I shall have to leave it to him.
