§ Mr. StracheyOur latest available figure is for November last. It is based on a small but representative sample of working class families. It covers only food eaten in the home, and not, for example, school or canteen meals. The figure is 2,320 calories, which shows no variation from the figure for November, 1945. It is very difficult to know what addition ought to be made for meals taken out, but a canteen meal will contain anything from 600 to 1,000 calories.
