HC Deb 04 February 1947 vol 432 c1566
40. Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

asked the Secretary of State for War when the hon. Member for Kingston-upon-Thames can hope to receive a final reply to the question raised in his letter dated 27th August, 1946, on the subject of the continued detention in South Africa of one, Carmine Lanzellotta, an American subject.

The Secretary of State for War (Mr. Bellenger)

As the hon. Member has been told, this matter is one for the Union Government. I have been in touch with their representatives here, but can only await their report.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

May I take it from that answer that the right hon. Gentleman and his Department have ceased to detain this man?

Mr. Bellenger

I do not think so. At any rate, the American Government know all about the suggestion of this Italian that he is an American citizen as well as an Italian citizen.
