HC Deb 27 February 1945 vol 408 cc1229-30
43. Mr. Petherick

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether the Government intend to produce post-war plans for dealing with the coal industry.

Major Lloyd George

As my hon. Friend is aware, I am awaiting the report of the Technical Advisory Committee which I appointed last October. I expect to receive this report early next month. When it has been considered, I hope to be in a position to make a statement.

Mr. Petherick

Has the attention of my right hon. and gallant Friend been drawn to the report in one of the newspapers to the effect that the Government are con- templating turning the coal industry into a public utility company; and will he recall the pledge given that controversial legislation should not be introduced during the present Parliament?

Mr. Gallacher

It is not controversial.
