HC Deb 12 December 1945 vol 417 c407
50. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Minister of Food whether it is his intention to control the price of oranges, bananas and other soft fruits.

The Minister of Food (Sir Benjamin Smith)

Yes, Sir. Orders controlling the price of oranges, bananas and other soft fruit are already in existence.

Mr. Freeman

Could my right hon. Friend say when we shall get regular sup plies of these commodities, which are now in strong demand among the general public?

Sir B. Smith

Just as soon as we have dollars and means of achieving it.

Mr. Medland

Will take the necessary steps to prevent their disappearance when they are controlled in the same way as eggs disappeared?

Dr. Little

Will the Minister give us some understanding that at Christmas he will lower the prices of these fruits to children? I think we owe it to them.

Sir B. Smith

No, I have never given such an undertaking.
