HC Deb 15 November 1944 vol 404 c1961
49. Dr. Little

asked the Minister of Production whether he will give the quantities of essential building materials for the erection of houses supplied to Northern Ireland during the past 12 months; and whether these materials were the full quota asked for by the Northern Ireland Government.

The Minister of Production (Mr. Lyttelton)

The Government of Northern Ireland receive bulk allocations of steel, cast iron and timber, to cover all building work. It is for them to determine the quantities necessary for progress on the approved programme for the erection of houses. I regret that it is not therefore possible to give the details requested, but I can assure the hon. Member that these bulk allocations have been adequate to meet Northern Ireland's housing programme.

Dr. Little

In view of the serious shortage of houses in Northern Ireland will the Minister see that the essential building materials required and asked for by the Government there will be supplied in future?
