HC Deb 01 November 1944 vol 404 cc778-9
13. Mr. Burke

asked the Secretary of. State for Air why No. 518734 Sergeant Downing, R.A.F., India, has relinquished his rank.

The Secretary of State for Air (Sir Archibald Sinclair)

This airman voluntarily relinquished the rank of sergeant for personal reasons.

Mr. Burke

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this man has been victimised because he refused, while in charge of Service vehicles, to allow officers to use them for non-Service purposes?

Sir A. Sinclair

No, Sir, I understand that he resigned purely for personal reasons, and that his resignation was voluntary, but if my hon. Friend has other information, I shall be very glad to receive it from him.

Mr. Burke

Did the Minister, in his inquiries, get any medical report on this man's condition as a result of his frustration and sense of grievance?

Sir A. Sinclair

I have given the House the information I have got. If my hon. Friend has other information, perhaps he will be good enough to give it to me.
