HC Deb 22 March 1944 vol 398 cc837-8
19. Wing-Commander Grant-Ferris

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether, bearing in mind the facts set out in a letter which has been sent to him, he will do all in his power to ensure that de-requisitioned property is. handed over in a clean and habitable condition and free from rubbish.

Captain Balfour

I am grateful to my hon. and gallant Friend for drawing my attention to this case and I am at once considering what further instructions are necessary to ensure that de-requisitioned properties shall be handed back in proper condition.

Earl Winterton

May I ask if the right hon. and gallant Gentleman is aware that there are constant complaints affecting both his Department and other Service Departments as to the manner in which property is handed over? Could he take an opportunity some time of telling hon. Members what disciplinary action is taken against Commanding Officers?

Captain Balfour

Since the hon. and gallant Member put down this Question have been looking at the Regulations, and I find that none of the Regulations and instructions specifically refer to cleanliness. It is that point we are now going to take up.
