§ 12. Mr. G. Straussasked the Secretary of Sate for Foreign Affairs whether he has any information about the hoisting of the Austrian flag over the Austrian Legation in Rome by Baron von Berger-Waldenegg and the taking over of the legation by this gentleman; and whether this was done with the support or approval of the Allied authorities.
§ Mr. EdenI understand that the report that Baron von Berger-Waldenegg has occupied the former Austrian Legation in Rome and hoisted the former Austrian flag is correct. This occurred without the knowledge of His Majesty's Government and has not their approval. Steps have been taken to bring the views of His Majesty's Government to the notice of the Allied authorities on the spot.
