HC Deb 07 June 1944 vol 400 c1351
53. Captain Plugge

asked the Minister of Food whether, in view of the fact that the hours 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the collection of new ration books are quite inadequate for people who work all day, possibly some way from the district in which they live, he will extend these hours into the evening and thus avoid a Saturday afternoon rush.

Food executive officers in each locality have full discretion to arrange for offices to be open during the hours necessary to meet local needs. For example, those in Chatham are open from 9.30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays and from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. on Saturdays.
