HC Deb 06 December 1944 vol 406 cc510-1
59. Dr. Little

asked the Minister of Food whether, for an increased supply of milk and eggs so much needed in the interest of the health of the people, he will release a larger supply of feeding stuff and poultry meal for milch cows and fowls.

Colonel Llewellin

All the feeding stuffs available are being released, and my hon. Friend will be glad to hear that rations for farm poultry and, I may add, for pigs, will be increased from 1st January, 1945.

Viscountess Astor

How much of the grain grown in this country goes into beer and how much into food? Could I have an answer, because people are getting worried about the lack of feeding stuffs?

Mr. Molson

Can we have an assurance that there will be no diversion of good nourishment from beer in order to feed the beasts of the field?

Dr. Little

Is not the supply of eggs and milk much more important than beer?
