HC Deb 19 October 1943 vol 392 c1210
51. Mr. Astor

asked the Prime Minister whether he will consider the possibility of recommending the award of the Africa Star to the British officers of the Egyptian police who were working with the British services during the period of the African campaign?

The Prime Minister

No, Sir.

Mr. Astor

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that these men remained in the Egyptian service at the express request of the British authorities when most of them wanted to join the British Army, that they have been working in the closest possible co-operation and that their services have been invaluable, and will he reconsider this matter?

The Prime Minister

All those conditions would apply to a great number of people who did not have the honour to be called upon to serve actively in the African campaign.
