HC Deb 29 July 1943 vol 391 c1785
84. Mr. Spearman

asked the Minister of Health what steps he proposes to take at Newton, Yorkshire, in which village of over 200 inhabitants the only water available, apart from any rainwater they can collect, is the water from two ponds into which the house drains run?

Mr. E. Brown

I am arranging for one of my inspectors to investigate the position locally, and I will communicate further with my hon. Friend when I receive his report.

Mr. Spearman

Is my right hon. Friend aware that since I brought this to his notice nearly three months ago no steps have been taken to improve the water position, and would it not have been possible for my right hon. Friend to have done a considerable time ago what he now proposes?

Mr. Brown

I have had some correspondence with the local authorities. Perhaps my hon. Friend will discuss it with me.

Rear-Admiral Beamish

Will my right hon. Friend direct attention to the hundreds of other villages which are suffering from lack of water?

Mr. Brown

If I had the labour and material, I should be only too happy.
