§ The Secretary of State For Foreign Affairs (Mr. Eden)I would ask the leave of the House to make a brief statement. On Sunday last, His Majesty the King of the Hellenes broadcast to the Greek people an important statement, regarding the aims and intentions of himself and his Government, both during the war and in the period immediately following the liberation of Greece. I will be grateful if the House will allow me to say how much His Majesty's Government welcome, and how sincerely they endorse, this far-sighted announcement by the King of Greece, which, in their view, provides for the constitutional evolution of Greek political institutions in accordance with the principles of democracy and of the Atlantic Charter. They are convinced that this statement will make an important contribution, both to the Greek war effort and to the happiness and prosperity of the whole Greek people when their freedom is regained.
§ Mr. A. Bevan (Ebbw Vale)Will the right hon. Gentleman take steps to see that the same principle of democratic selection is extended to the French Committee in Algiers?
