Mr. Edmund Harveyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any information to show 321 that the Italian decrees abolishing slavery and forced labour in Ethiopia are now in force; and whether the Ethiopian Government has yet issued any decrees or regulations dealing with this subject?
§ Mr. EdenThe Ethiopian Government issued a Proclamation on 26th August last, abolishing the state of slavery, thus carrying the previous decrees against slavery issued before the Italian occupation to the logical conclusion of total abolition. This Proclamation was published in the Ethiopian "Official Gazette" on 27th August. As stated on 18th June, the Gabar system was abolished by Proclamation on 2nd November, 1941.
