HC Deb 25 March 1942 vol 378 cc1991-2
49. Mr. Cocks

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the experience gained by the Russian Armies on the field of battle, he will invite the Soviet Government to send a Military Mission to this country to advise on questions of defence, tactics and military training in methods of modern warfare?

Mr. Attlee

As the House is already aware, there is a Military Mission in this country now, and all facilities exist for a full and free exchange of information on military subjects. The Government are satisfied that these arrangements meet our, and Soviet, requirements.

Mr. Cocks

Would not the unique experience gained by Russian soldiers on the battlefield be of the greatest assistance to us at the present time in defending this country, and cannot some arrangement be made to bring them over under a sort of lease-lend agreement?

Mr. Attlee

The matter of the personnel of the Mission is obviously one for the Soviet Government. We have a Mission here from the Soviet Government.
