HC Deb 04 March 1942 vol 378 c620
2. Mr. Mander

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will make it clear that the Government would welcome unity between all sections of Austrians in this country, and that such unity must powerfully influence any sympathy or support which the Government might be inclined to give?

The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (Mr. Eden)

Yes, Sir. His Majesty's Government would welcome unity among the Austrian groups, as among other foreign groups in this country, and their attitude towards such groups would certainly be influenced thereby.

Mr. Mander

Does not my right hon. Friend feel that the amount of unity already obtained among Austrians is encouraging?

Mr. Eden

I do not think I could add anything to what. I have already said.
