Major Lloydasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether he is aware of the great dissatisfaction that exists in the districts surrounding Glasgow, and especially in East Renfrewshire, at the inadequate omnibus services provided, and the long time which individuals are required to wait at omnibus stops when going to and from their work; and what action does he propose to take to remedy the present situation?

SalterThe heavy demands in the neighbourhood of Glasgow for workers' services, which must take precedence, preclude general facilities on the pre-war standard, but efforts are being made to expand somewhat the resources of the local bus operators so as to enable them to deal adequately with all essential travel. As to East Renfrewshire, I understand that my hon. and gallant Friend has sent to the Regional Transport Commissioner some recent complaints in regard to a service between. Newton Mearns and Glasgow. The Commissioner has this matter actively in hand.
Major LloydWill the Minister bear in mind that it is not only in connection with these firms that there are complaints, but that complaints come from a wide area over East Renfrew and right round Glasgow? Will he look carefully into this matter, because there is widespread discontent, and it is impeding the war effort owing to workers arriving late for their work?
§ Mr. GallacherWhen the Minister is considering the position of the omnibus services in Glasgow, will he also consider the terrific hold-up of thousands of workers every morning and night caused by the antiquated chain ferry between Renfrew and Yoker?
