HC Deb 29 January 1942 vol 377 cc924-5
66. Mr. Simmonds

asked the Minister of Health whether he intends to alter the system by which persons compulsorily insured under the National Health Insurance Acts may effect such insurance through the approved society of their choice and to alter in any way the status and functions of such approved societies?

Mr. E. Brown

The questions raised by my hon. Friend will be among the problems to be considered by the Committee which my right hon. Friend the Minister without Portfolio has appointed to undertake, as part of post-war planning, a comprehensive survey of all existing schemes of social insurance and assistance.

Mr. Simmonds

May we take it that my right hon. Friend does not propose any changes during the war?

Mr. Brown

I should not like to give a pledge of that kind. This is only one of a very large number of questions now being considered, in the light of the needs which will have to be met after the war.
