HC Deb 16 December 1942 vol 385 cc1896-7
12. Captain Peter Macdonald

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what progress is being made with the compilation of a list of German, Italian and Japanese persons who have been guilty of excessive brutality during the war and who will be sought out and placed on trial for their crimes at the conclusion of hostilities?

Mr. Eden

Certain essential preliminary discussions are now proceeding with the Allied and Dominion Governments concerned with a view to the setting-up of the United Nations Commission for the investigation of war crimes. Meanwhile arrangements are being elaborated whereby information available to His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom regarding war crimes committed against British subjects may be submitted to the Commission. No doubt the other Governments concerned are making their own arrangements in regard to war crimes against their nationals.
