HC Deb 07 October 1941 vol 374 c821
19. Captain Cunningham-Reid

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will reconsider his decision that members of the Women's Land Army shall not be allowed to obtain food at Auxiliary Territorial Service canteens, in view of the fact that considerable hardship is caused by this prohibition to land girls, who often have to take long cross-country journeys, sometimes late at night, and are unable to get anything to eat or drink on the way?

Captain Margesson

I assume that my hon. and gallant Friend is referring to the canteens for the Services which are operated by various philanthropic organisations. I am in touch with these organisations on the question of allowing members of the Land Army to use their canteens and hope to be in a position to make a statement shortly.
