HC Deb 06 May 1941 vol 371 cc693-4
64. Mr. Bellenger

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food the name of the firm of chartered accountants referred to in paragraph 68 of the Vote of Credit Appropriation Account, 1939, whose reports and certificates are outstanding in connection with the examination of millers' accounts relating to the purchase, storage and sale of wheat; and what action is being taken to obtain these reports?

Major Lloyd George

The firm of accountants concerned is Messrs. Thomson McLintock and Company. Fourteen interim progress certificates had been furnished by them before the issue of the report of the Comptroller and Auditor-General on 14th April, 1941. Various reasons have prevented the firm from bringing their work to a conclusion by the submission of final certificates. These reasons include delay in obtaining from abroad essential documents, and shortages and changes of staff in the cases both of the millers and of the accountants.

Mr. Bellenger

May I ask my hon. and gallant Friend whether it is possible for the accountants to complete this matter at an early date?
