HC Deb 06 March 1941 vol 369 c1012
45. Mr. Cocks

asked the Prime Minister whether he will consider sending a letter to every Member of Parliament not on Government service giving him detailed instructions as to what he should do in the event of an invasion, and, in particular, whether he should remain in close contact with the Government or whether he will be given official duties in his constituency?

The Lord Privy Seal (Mr. Attlee)

The Government are publishing instructions for the guidance of the public. I think that hon. Members wll be able to adapt the advice which is given to their own circumstances.

Mr. Cocks

Do I understand that the Government will not have any special advice for Members of this House in such an event?

Mr. Attlee

I think that is a matter that would best be left to the judgment of hon. Members themselves rather than that detailed instructions should be issued to individuals.

Mr. Mander

Will not all Members shortly be in the Government, so that the question will not arise?
