HC Deb 05 August 1941 vol 373 c1780
34. Sir Percy Hurd

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that Devizes for many years has been the home town of the Wiltshire Regiment, which owes so much of its world-wide successes to local patriotism; and if he will give an assurance that these associations will be fully maintained in the proposed changes in military locations?

Captain Margesson

I am aware of the long and close association between the town of Devizes and the Wiltshire Regiment, and care will be taken to preserve this association so far as this can be done without detriment to the interests of the Army as a whole.

Sir P. Hurd

May we take it that the right hon. and gallant Gentleman fully realises the military value of these local associations?

Captain Margesson

Yes, Sir.
