HC Deb 22 April 1941 vol 371 c20
37. Mr. Stokes

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why the premises of the Rev. G. H. Dymock, vicar of Saint Bede, Bristol, were recently raided by the police?

The Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. Peake)

I understand that the premises of this gentleman were recently searched in pursuance of an Order issued by the Superintendent of Police in accordance with the provisions of Paragraph (3) of Defence Regulation 88 A.

Mr. Stokes

Are we to understand that the police had reasonable grounds to suspect any activities contrary to the public interest?

Mr. Peake

There is no reason to suppose that the provisions of the Defence Regulation have not been properly complied with in this case; but it would not be in the public interest for me to make a statement at this stage.
