HC Deb 20 November 1940 vol 365 c1974
37. Rear-Admiral Beamish

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been drawn to the effects of Circulars 1869 and 2113, with particular reference to mobile units; and will he consider some adjustment of the arrangements for medical officers for duty, which have resulted in heavy expenditure of public money, and, in the majority of instances, without the services of the medical officers being called into use?

Miss Horsbrugh

I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of a recent circular which modifies the arrangements for the attendance of medical officers of mobile first-aid posts. With regard to fixed first-aid posts, my hon. Friend will see that the general effect of Circular 2113 issued last August is that medical officers only attend for duty when summoned by the Control Centre after an incident has occurred.

Rear-Admiral Beamish

Is the hon. Lady aware that these medical officers have no desire to make any money out of war conditions, and can she say whether the modification of which she speaks is intended to save money?

Miss Horsbrugh

It is intended also to save the time of the medical officers in order that they need not be in attendance except when their services are required.
