HC Deb 25 June 1940 vol 362 c296
37. Mr. Parker

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what is now the situation in the Dutch East Indies; and what discussions, if any, have taken place either with the Japanese Government or with the United States Government, or with both, concerning any possible developments arising from the removal of the Dutch Government to London?

Mr. Butler

There is nothing to report from the Netherlands East Indies, where the situation is normal. Following upon interchanges of view which have taken place between the Governments concerned, His Majesty's Government have made known their desire that the status quo in the Netherlands East Indies should be preserved. Declarations in the same sense have been made separately and independently by the Governments of the United States and Japan.
