Lieut.-Colonel Sir Assheton Pownall

(by Private Notice) asked the Secretary of State for War whether, having regard to the recommendations in the third report from the Select Committee on National Expenditure, he has taken any steps to secure that the War Department have the advice and help of civilian experts in carrying out their building programme?

Yes, Sir. A committee has been set up to advise the Army Council on building questions, including the placing of works contracts and the supervision of works in progress. The members of the committee are:

  • Mr. J. Jameson, C.B.E. (Chairman);
  • Mr. M. T. Tudsbery, M.Inst.C.E.;
  • Mr. C. E. Elcock, F.R.I.B.A.;
  • Mr. Arthur S. Ainsley.
The committee has already started on its work.
