HC Deb 25 January 1940 vol 356 c767
39. Sir J. Smedley Crooke

asked the Minister of Health whether, in view of the forthcoming alterations in regard to old age pensions, he will take steps to ensure that the special grants the Government contemplate giving to the old age pensioners will not be taken into account by the public assistance committees in assessing the means of applicants for help?

Mr. Elliot

I must ask my hon. Friend to await the Bill which will give effect to the proposals of the Government as announced by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Mr. Thorne

Surely, the Minister must have made up his mind by now, even before the Bill is through, as to what is his intention in regard to this matter?
