asked the Minister of Health the number of women and children that have been evacuated from the county of Durham, the areas from which they were drawn, and the number that have returned home?

Following is the reply:

The total numbers of unaccompanied children, and mothers with young children evacuated from the evacuable areas in the County of Durham are:

Unaccompanied children 29,700
Accompanied children 6,100
Mothers 3,600

The areas from which these persons were evacuated are:

The numbers who have since returned to the evacuable areas are, so far as can be estimated:

Unaccompanied children 15,200
Accompanied children 5,200
Mothers 3,100
