HC Deb 20 August 1940 vol 364 c1131
76. Mr. R. Gibson

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he has considered the protest, sent by the hon. Member for Greenock, from the students of the Watt Memorial Technical College, Greenock, in respect that whereas students had responded to an appeal for service in the Merchant Navy as wireless operators and had voluntarily undertaken an expensive course towards that end, they were nevertheless being drafted without their consent to the Royal Air Force; that the compensation of £6 offered was inadequate, the outlay being approximately £60; and whether he has any statement to make on the subject?

Sir A. Sinclair

I hope to be able to make a statement on the subject tomorrow in reply to a Question by the hon. Member for Fife, West (Mr. Gallacher).
