HC Deb 20 August 1940 vol 364 c1120
49. Mr. Stokes

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer which of the seven plots of land at Abbotsinch purchased from seven different owners were regarded as capital sales?

Sir K. Wood

I am not prepared to furnish information relating to the question of the liability to taxation of particular sales of land, as the disclosure would involve a breach of the statutory rule that particulars of the Income Tax assessment are confidential.

Mr. Stokes

Might I ask the Chancellor to answer my Question? I would remind him that he has already told me that revenue sales may not be disclosed. I have now asked him which are capital sales, not liable to Income Tax.

Sir K. Wood

It comes to the same thing.

Mr. Maxton

Why should the Chancellor of the Exchequer cover up the unfortunate investments of the late Air Minister?
