HC Deb 20 August 1940 vol 364 c1108
26. Captain Anstruther-Gray

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many of the 249 registered conscientious objectors now in the Civil Service are in his Department; and of these, how many are in the Scottish Education Department?

The Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. Ernest Brown)

The number of civil servants in the Departments under my jurisdiction who have been registered as conscientious objectors is three, including one in the Scottish Education Department.

Captain Anstruther-Gray

Will my right hon. Friend give an assurance that these persons will not be paid more than their contemporaries who have been called up for service?

Mr. Brown

My hon. and gallant Friend will understand that the matter does not rest with me but is a question of general Government policy.
