HC Deb 17 October 1939 vol 352 c657
18. Mr. Mander

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether he will inquire what steps are being taken in the Dominions with reference to the postponement of elections, both national and local, cither by legislation or by agreement among the parties?

The Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs (Mr. Eden)

I will endeavour to obtain the information for which the hon. Member asks.

Mr. Mander

Has the right hon. Gentleman any reason to think that any of the Dominions are limiting the democratic rights by legislation at the present time? Is there not a general election going on in Quebec?

Mr. Eden

I have no reason to think, but I am trying to find out.

Sir Percy Hurd

Is it not extremely desirable to keep Quebec politics outside this House?
