HC Deb 11 October 1939 vol 352 c327
61. Sir M. Sueter

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Information whether, in order to facilitate the transmission of Press messages to the Empire, the system of Government priorities could be revised still further so as to ensure that ordinary Press cables might have a fairer chance; and whether he will add a member of the cables and wireless organisation to the committee now advising the Ministry of Information on communications?

Sir E. Grigg

With regard to urgent Press telegrams to the Empire, as I informed my hon. Friend the Member for Moseley (Sir P. Hannon) on 3rd October, a special service has been introduced by Cable and Wireless, Limited, at the instance of the Ministry. With regard to ordinary Press telegrams to the Empire, my Noble Friend recognises the importance of securing rapid transmission, and will again go closely into the matter in consultation with my right hon. and gallant Friend the Postmaster-General. With regard to the second part of the question, I think my hon. and gallant Friend is under a misapprehension. There is no committee to advise the Ministry of Information on communications.
