HC Deb 05 October 1939 vol 351 cc2093-4
70. Sir I. Albery

asked the Minister of Health whether it has been decided that the quinquennial revaluation due to take place next year is to be postponed; and if so, are any steps being taken to facilitate applications to be put on a provisional list by business concerns in the London area whose business has practically been brought to a standstill by war-time conditions?

Mr. Elliot

Yes, Sir. The Government propose to take steps to secure postponement of the date of operation of the new valuation lists due to come into force in April, 1941. As regards the second part of the question, I am informed by the Metropolitan Boroughs' Standing Joint Committee that they have under consideration difficulties arising in regard to assessment and rating as a result of war-time conditions and the proposed postponement of the valuation, and that it is their intention to make representations to me in the matter. Any such representations will receive careful consideration.

Sir I. Albery

In view of the serious situation that has been created, will my right hon. Friend give the matter his urgent attention?

Mr. Elliot

Any representation, as I say, made to me will receive my urgent attention.
