HC Deb 16 March 1939 vol 345 cc587-8
52. Mr. J. Morgan

asked the Minister of Health on what grounds the South Westmorland Rural Council have condemned as unfit for human consumption water from a well in the village of Sedgwick; and what steps this local authority has taken to provide the affected householders with an alternative supply?

Mr. Elliot

The council closed the well on the advice of their medical officer of health, based on bacteriological examination of the water. A piped supply has been provided and runs through the village.

Mr. Levy

Has my right hon. Friend suggested to this local authority that it should instal a purification plant?

Mr. Elliot

No, Sir.

Mr. Morgan

Does the expense fall on the persons whose water supply has been cut off in the other case?

Mr. Elliot

I should require notice of that question.
