HC Deb 16 March 1939 vol 345 c591
78. Mr. Gallacher

asked the Minister of Health whether he has been acquainted with the terms of a resolution unanimously adopted by the joint advisory committee of the National Union of Teachers and the Educational Institute of Scotland requesting that special arrangements be made for the feeding of under-nourished pre-school children through the provision of meals and milk, free or at a low cost; and whether it is proposed to institute additional accommodation for this purpose?

Mr. Elliot

I have received a copy of the resolution. I would draw the attention of the hon. Member to the powers in this respect already enjoyed and widely exercised by local authorities throughout the country.

Mr. Gallacher

Is the Minister not aware of the recommendation that there should be suitable rest accommodation attached to every school, and will he not consider, especially in new school buildings, ensuring that such accommodation is provided?

Mr. Elliot

That is a matter which falls under the purview of the Minister of Education.
