HC Deb 17 July 1939 vol 350 cc14-5
25. Mr. Bellenger

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether the £6,000,000 credit allotted to Turkey under the Anglo-Turkish (Armaments Credits) Agreement Act has been entirely utilised, and whether the whole of that sum has been expended in the United Kingdom?

The Secretary for Mines (Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd)

I have been asked to reply. Contracts amounting to slightly under £5,000,000 have so far been approved for payment under the terms of the Anglo-Turkish (Armaments Credit) Agreement Act, 1939. In accordance with the terms of the Agreement, this amount will be entirely spent on the purchase of material in the United Kingdom. The amount actually advanced to the Turkish Government so far under the provisions of the Act is £472,310.
