HC Deb 07 December 1939 vol 355 cc814-5
49. Mr. J. Morgan

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the approach of the Christmas season, when pigeon and other shooting parties are active, he will remind farmers and others to be careful not to shoot at homing pigeons, and whether there is any doubt as to the species of pigeon, not to shoot at all?

Sir R. Dorman-Smith

I will gladly draw attention to the need for the exercise of care by shooting parties in order to protect homing pigeons.

Mr. Morgan

May I represent to the Minister that these pigeon parties are about to be increased, I believe, to 1,000 and that it is not so much the farmers who are concerned as the persons who are invited to join shooting parties in the towns, who will shoot at anything that flies?

Sir R. Dorman-Smith indicated assent.
