HC Deb 31 May 1938 vol 336 c1804
18. Sir Henry Morris-Jones

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, during the last three months, there has been any diminution, in the import and export trade of Czechoslovakia as compared with the three previous months?

Mr. Stanley

During the three months ended March, 1938, imports of merchandise into Czechoslovakia were valued at 2,216 million Koruné, as compared with 3,017 million in the preceding quarter; the corresponding figures for exports were 2,869 million Koruné in the first quarter of 1938 and 3,362 million in the previous quarter.

Sir H. Morris-Jones

Is this due to restrictions by the German Government?

Mr. Stanley

Not so far as I am aware.

Mr. J. J. Davidson

Is this adverse balance of trade with so many foreign countries due to the fact that you have a Labour Opposition?

Mr. Mander

Are negotiations proceeding at present with the Government of Czechoslovakia?

Mr. Stanley

No, Sir.
