HC Deb 03 May 1938 vol 335 c680
13. Mr. Touche

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that men living near Holley and Crawley wishing to enlist in anti-aircraft units of the Territorial Army have no nearer depot than Guildford; and whether he will consider forming an anti-aircraft company in Horley, particularly in view of its proximity to Gatwick airport and the War Office mobilisation depot in construction at Hookwood?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

The considerations to which my hon. Friend refers will not be lost sight of in deciding the ultimate geographical distribution of anti-aircraft units. In the meantime, I would point out that there are still vacancies for men of Surrey in the 4th and 5th Battalions of The Queen's Royal Regiment at Coulsdon and Reigate respectively, and for men of Sussex in the 4th Battalion of The Royal Sussex Regiment at Horsham, Haywards Heath and East Grinstead. The necessary travelling expenses to and from the drill halls are paid by the public.
