HC Deb 15 June 1938 vol 337 cc219-20
49. Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Health whether, in view of the fact that in such areas as the Romford Parliament- ary Division it is impossible without Government subsidy to let houses built for the abatement of overcrowding at rents which the overcrowded families can afford to pay, he will consider the amendment of Clause 10 of the Housing (Financial Provisions) Act, 1938, so as to provide that houses completed after 31st March, 1938, and erected for the abatement of overcrowding shall be eligible for subsidy under the Act?

The Minister of Health (Mr. Elliot)

I understand that the houses which have been erected by the Romford Borough Council have not been used for the abatement of overcrowding, but that the council have it in mind to build further houses for this purpose, and I shall be prepared to consider an application for assistance under the Housing (Financial Provisions) Act, 1938, in respect of this proposal.
