HC Deb 28 July 1938 vol 338 c3293
55. Mr. David Adams

asked the Minister of Health whether he has considered the desirability of the introduction of legislation giving financial assistance to local authorities for the erection of houses to accommodate single persons who are outside the scope of the Housing (Financial Provisions) Act, 1938?

Mr. Elliot

I believe that the housing authorities are fully occupied with work of urgent importance for which assistance is available under the Act to which the hon. Member refers, and I do not contemplate the introduction of further housing legislation at the present time.

Mr. Adams

May I take it that the Minister recognises the urgency of the need of accommodation for this class of persons, and that whenever the occasion arises in the future it will have serious consideration?

Mr. Elliot

I will keep the matter in mind if further legislation is introduced.
