HC Deb 22 February 1938 vol 332 c185
43. Mr. Gallacher

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware of the strong desire for a measure of devolution in Scotland; and will he consider the proposal for regular meetings of the Scottish Standing Committee to be held in Scotland with representatives of the county and local authorities participating in the business on matters affecting their particular interests, and make a statement thereon?

Mr. Elliot

Various proposals have been made to me for a review of the existing arrangements for the conduct of Parliamentary business affecting Scotland. I have noted the hon. Member's suggestion.

Mr. Gallacher

Will not the Minister seriously consider having one or more meetings of the Scottish Standing Committee in the Peace Pavilion during the Exhibition?

Mr. Thorne

Are the Government prepared to give Home Rule to Scotland, so that they can do their own business in their own way?
