HC Deb 26 May 1937 vol 324 c267
29. Mr. Tinker

asked the Minister of Transport what progress has been made with the lighting of the new East Lancashire road from Liverpool to Manchester; and when the whole length will be completed?

The Minister of Transport (Mr. Hore-Belisha)

There is lighting at the nine principal junctions and the portions in Liverpool and Swinton and Pendlebury are lit. I cannot say when lighting will be provided on the rest of the road.

Mr. Tinker

Will the right hon. Gentleman use his influence to try to get this work completed before winter time, because that would be the means of preventing a good number of accidents?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

I am aware of the hon. Member's continuous interest in this matter, but, as he knows, before I can do anything I must await the report of the Departmental Committee on lighting which I have set up.
