HC Deb 25 March 1937 vol 321 c3055
18. Mr. Day

asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the dangerous nature of the conveyance by road of vitriol and other similar explosive substances, he will consider strengthening the regulations for transporting the same?

Captain Margesson

Yes, Sir. Draft Regulations under the Petroleum (Consolidation) Act, 1928, to control the conveyance by road of a number of dangerous substances, including sulphuric acid, have been prepared in consultation with the various interests affected, and my right hon. Friend hopes to be in a position to issue them before long.

Mr. Day

Will it be made on the same lines as the conveyance of these substances by rail?

Captain Margesson

I should like to see that question on the Paper.

Mr. Hardie

Is any provision being made for vehicles conveying such things to carry sand or something of the kind in case of leakages taking place?

Captain Margesson

The hon. Member had better await the Regulations.
