HC Deb 14 June 1937 vol 325 cc6-7
10. Mr. Kennedy

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether it is the intention of the Government to represent to the governments of Japan and Australia the desirability of extending the conversations now taking place between Japan and Australia on the subject of a proposed scheme for a pact of non-aggresion, in order to include the United States of America and all the leading Pacific Powers.

Mr. Eden

The right hon. Gentleman is, I think, under some misapprehension. I understand that no conversations on the subject are proceeding between the Government of Japan and His Majesty's Government in the Commonwealth of Australia. The subject has been considered at the Imperial Conference, and in any steps that may be taken as a result the point made by the right hon. Gentleman will be borne in mind.
