HC Deb 16 February 1937 vol 320 c989
38. Mr. Westwood

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware of the desire amongst local authorities in Scotland for the consolidation of local government statute law relating to public health; and what action he proposes to give effect to the desires of the local authorities?

Mr. Elliot

I am aware that Scottish local authorities have expressed the desire for the consolidation of the law relating to public health. I have every sympathy with their views, and I am keeping the matter before me in my consideration of the report of the Committee on Scottish Health Services.

Mr. Westwood

Is the right hon. Gentleman prepared to set aside a special draftsman for the purpose of carrying through that work without which it is almost impossible to get the work completed in time to help the existing local authorities?

Mr. Elliot

I will certainly consider the question of engaging additional staff for this purpose.
